The Arts Association of Northern New York (AANNY) will host a three-day introductory workshop to using soft pastels to create animal portraits, on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, July 6, 7, and 8. The workshop will take place from 1 to 4 pm each day, at the AANNY building, located at 119 West Main Street, Sackets Harbor.
The workshop is open to all ability and experience levels, and it’s designed to help participants discover the versatility of creating art with pastels. Each session will begin with a 20- to 30-minute demonstration, including basic drawing skills and how soft pastels can be used to create beautiful paintings. Participants will then work from photos of their favorite pets or animals, and they’re encouraged to bring their own reference photos, if possible.

Instructor Greg Trombly, an experienced and award-winning pastel artist and teacher, will guide participants through the process, with an emphasis on improving drawing skills and focusing on the importance of proportion.
The cost of the three-day workshop is $85 for AANNY members and $95 for non-members. Participants may also choose to attend an individual day class at a cost of $30 for AANNY members and $35 for non-members.
