The Arts Association of Northern New York (AANNY) will host a two-day introductory workshop that explores working with Japanese Masa art paper, on Monday, July 11, and Monday, July 18, from 9 am to noon each day. The workshop will take place at the AANNY building, located at 119 West Main Street, in Sackets Harbor.

Instructor Eileen Ditch will introduce participants to the world of Masa, a Japanese art paper. In the first session on July 11, participants will discuss methods of combining the paper with drop colors and learn how to affix the paper using a brayer. In the second session on July 18, participants will learn to work with other textured materials, explore the array of color choices, and begin thinking “abstract.”

Both classes will include a discussion of the Masa paper and the hodgepodge process, along with time to work on individual projects. By splitting the workshop into two sessions with a week in between, the instructor hopes to inspire students to gather additional ideas and images between the first and second classes.

The two-day workshop is open to artists of all ages and abilities. The cost to register is $85 for AANNY members and $95 for non-members. Full payment is due at registration.

For more information on Masa or to register for the workshop, visit AANNY’s website, call the office at 315-646-3502, or visit the Arts Center in person, at 119 West Main Street.
