SUMMARY:Revolutionary War Blacksmith at the Battlefield
DESCRIPTION:The Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site will host a Revolutionary War Blacksmith for a two-day living history experience on Friday and Saturday\, July 31 and Aug 1\, from 10 am to 4:30 pm\, at the site’s Memorial Grove. \nTraveling Blacksmith Jymm\, who specializes in 18th century blacksmithing\, attracted crowds for his blacksmithing presentation during 2024’s North American War of 1812 Grand Tactical. Back by popular demand again this year\, Jymm will return to Sackets Harbor for two full days of living history demonstrations entitled “A Revolutionary War Blacksmith: Keeping the Military Prepared.” \nJymm will bring his traveling forge housed on a limber\, a type of carriage which traditionally supported a cannon in the 1800s. He’s fashioned this as blacksmiths of the Revolutionary War-era did to create a “blacksmith shop on wheels\,” carrying essential blacksmith equipment and farriers to both shoe horses and repair wagons and artillery equipment. \nThe two days of demonstrations are all free\, and the public is invited to attend. Stop by the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site during these two days to experience the sights\, sounds\, and smalls of an 18th century traveling forge. \nFor more information\, please contact the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site by phone at 315-646-3634 or visit their website.

SUMMARY:Second Friday\, Free Movie
DESCRIPTION:The United Presbyterian Church will host its Second Friday\, Free Movie event on Friday\, Aug 14\, at 6:30 pm\, at the Church\, at 101 South Broad St\, in Sackets Harbor. \nEach month\, the Presbyterian Church staff selects a movie to show to the community and hosts a discussion\, following the screening. Some of the films are comedies\, some are dramas\, and please note that some do have content that may not be suitable for children. Due to the nature of the Church’s license\, they are unable to advertise the title of the movie. However\, they often offer clues to what they’ll be showing on the sign in front of the Church and on their Facebook page. \nIf you’re game for a surprise — and some free popcorn — enter through the Fellowship Hall door or use the nearby handicap-accessible ramp door each month on the second Friday. \nFor more information\, please visit the United Presbyterian Church website and Facebook page.

SUMMARY:Civil War Saturday at the Battlefield
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site’s Navy Yard on Saturday\, Aug 15\, from 10 am to 3 pm\, for “Civil War Saturday\,” when the past comes alive for this special living history day. \nFor this event (weather permitting)\, volunteer living history presenters will offer stories of the US Army and Navy during the war years. Those representing the US Army will share what it was like for the Union troops on land\, and those representing the US Navy will discuss life on board a ship. \nLike many people at that time\, loyalties were strained. US Commandant Josiah Tattnall (1795-1871) was stationed at the Sackets Harbor Navy Yard with his family. Although he was nearing retirement\, Commandant Tattnall decided to leave his post in Sackets Harbor in 1861 and start a new military journey serving in the Confederate States Army (CSA) for his native state of Georgia. Today\, attendees can tour the historic site’s Commandant’s House\, restored to how the family left it in the early 1860s\, and learn more about how they lived while here and what became of the family during and after the war. \nThis series is organized and sponsored by the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site. For more information on this event\, please contact the Battlefield at 315-646-3634 or visit the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site website.

SUMMARY:Photo Exhibition at the Battlefield
DESCRIPTION:The Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site is featuring a free photo exhibition called “Reflections of the Past” at the Battlefield’s Red Barn building off Hill Street. \nLocal Photographer and Poet Daniel Kantak captured hundreds of images at the Battlefield’s 2024 North American War of 1812 Grand Tactical\, which make up this photo exhibition. In collaboration with the Battlefield\, Mr. Kantak has curated a collection of photographs from the large-scale event\, which saw nearly 400 reenactors and living history participants from the United States and Canada gather in Sackets Harbor. \nThe Battlefield’s Red Barn is showcasing a number of large-scale prints — along with one massive 9′ by 18′ outdoor banner image — for the public throughout the 2026 season at the Historic Site. The images capture the contrast of the dramatic military tacticals and the quiet times in the military camps\, as well as people going about day-to-day life. \nThe Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site opens for the 2026 season on Saturday\, May 16\, and it closes on Saturday\, Oct 10. The photography exhibition is open for viewing during the Battlefield’s normal hours. In August\, those hours are scheduled as Tuesday through Saturday\, from 10 am to 4:30 pm. However\, the hours may change over the summer\, so please be sure to check the Battlefield’s website for the most up-to-date information. \nFor more information\, please contact the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site by phone at 315-646-3634 or visit their website.
