SUMMARY:Summer Movies on Second Saturdays
DESCRIPTION:The United Presbyterian Church will host its new Summer Movies on Second Saturdays on Saturday\, Sept 14\, at 1 pm\, at the Church\, at 101 South Broad St\, in Sackets Harbor. \nThe Village of Sackets Harbor is planning extra events on the second Saturdays of July\, August\, and September to make these summer days a bit more fun. Along with additional activities at the Community Farmstand\, the United Presbyterian Church will feature free showings of kids movies on these Second Saturdays for the community. Due to the nature of the Church’s license\, they are unable to advertise the title of the movie. However\, they often offer clues to what they’ll be showing on the sign in front of the Church and on their Facebook page. \nIf you’re game for a surprise — and some free popcorn — enter through the Fellowship Hall door or use the nearby handicap-accessible ramp door each Second Saturday this summer. \nFor more information\, please visit the United Presbyterian Church website and Facebook page.

SUMMARY:StoryWalk on NYS Path Through History Day
DESCRIPTION:The Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site and Hay Memorial Library will hold a StoryWalk for the NYS Path Through History Day on Saturday\, Oct 12\, from 10 am to 1 pm\, at the Battlefield. \nCommemorate the event with a lovely fall walk through Sackets Harbor\, while reading a special storybook’s pages posted along the way. This StoryWalk’s book selection is Over and Under the Pond\, an enriching story to help readers discover the plants and animals that make up the interconnected ecosystem of a mountain pond. The book was written by Kate Messner with beautiful illustrations by Christopher Silas Neal. \nIf you’re new to the StoryWalks concept\, it’s an interactive way for readers of all ages to immerse themselves in a story while also enjoying a walk out in nature. The pages of a children’s storybook are laminated and placed on stands along an outdoor path\, and each page leads you to the next one. StoryWalks are engaging for young readers while also providing a great outlet for physical energy. \nThe StoryWalk on Oct 12th is free\, and the public is welcome to attend. The starting point is near the Lieutenant’s House at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield\, located at 504 West Main Street. Parking is available near the entrance\, at the waterfront parking lot off of West Washington Street\, and in a nearby lot off Hill Street. \nThe event is organized and sponsored by Hay Memorial Library and the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site. The Library will offer “take-and-make” craft kits while supplies last at the first stop of the walk. Participants will continue along the Sackets Harbor Battlefield’s History Trail to enjoy reading pages of the featured book\, observe the signs of fall in nature\, and learn more about the history of the area. \nFor more information\, please visit Hay Memorial Library’s website and Facebook page\, or contact the Library by phone at 315-646-2228 or by email at sahlib@ncls.org.

SUMMARY:Cheesemaking Talk at the Union Hotel
DESCRIPTION:Discover the history of local cheesemaking at “The Whey It Was: Cheesemaking in Jefferson County” on Tuesday\, Oct 22\, at 6:30 pm\, at the (former) Union Hotel\, at 401 West Main Street\, in Sackets Harbor. \nHistorian Larry Corbett will present this cheesemaking talk\, which showcases one of the diverse ways the American landscape influences our experiences and way of life. He’ll also reveal a connection to the North Country’s War of 1812 history with the story of war veteran Col. Meacham\, who produced a mammoth cheese that he shipped from Sandy Creek to the president in Washington\, D.C. \nThis cheesemaking talk is part of series of discussions on “Place and Story\,” co-hosted by the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site and Hay Memorial Library in Sackets Harbor. All the talks in the series are free\, and the public is welcome to attend. \nFor more information on this talk and the full discussion series\, please contact the Sackets Harbor Battlefield by phone at 315-646-3634 or visit their website.
