SUMMARY:Photo Exhibition at the Battlefield
DESCRIPTION:The Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site is currently featuring a free photo exhibition called “Reflections of the Past” at the Battlefield’s Red Barn building off Hill Street. \nLocal Photographer and Poet Daniel Kantak captured hundreds of images at the Battlefield’s 2024 North American War of 1812 Grand Tactical. In collaboration with the Battlefield\, Mr. Kantak has curated a collection of photographs from last year’s event\, which saw nearly 400 reenactors and living history participants from the United States and Canada gather in Sackets Harbor. \nThe Battlefield’s Red Barn is now showcasing a number of large-scale prints — along with one massive 9′ by 18′ outdoor banner image — on display for the public during the 2025 season at the Historic Site. The images capture the contrast of the dramatic military tacticals and the quiet times in the military camps\, as well as people going about day-to-day life. \nThe photography exhibition is open for viewing during the Battlefield’s normal hours. In July 2025\, the hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays\, from 10 am to 4:30 pm. \nFor more information\, please contact the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site by phone at 315-646-3634 or visit their website.

SUMMARY:The Bosun's Call at the Battlefield
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the Fourth of July weekend with two performances by musical group The Bosun’s Call on Saturday\, July 5\, at the (former) Union Hotel\, at 401 West Main St\, in Sackets Harbor. The first performance begins at 11 am\, and the second performance is at 1 pm. \nThe Bosun’s Call is returning to Sackets Harbor fresh on the heels of their popular performance at last year’s North American War of 1812 Grand Tactical. Created in 2015\, the group helps foster an interest in the songs\, folkways\, and culture of the maritime world. Their songbook\, with over 50 songs\, has been researched and compiled from primary sources\, and it includes a mix of sea songs\, folk songs\, Celtic songs\, tavern songs\, patriotic songs\, and other tunes. \nThe performer’s uniforms and tools of the period are constructed as authentically as possible using period patterns\, materials\, and techniques. During performances\, The Bosun’s Call shares historical anecdotes\, fascinating tales\, and cultural traditions about life at sea. By singing songs and sharing artifacts and stories\, the group illustrates how sailors coped and bonded while living aboard ships. They honor all those who served during the Age of Sail\, from Native Americans to African Americans to Anglo Americans\, as well as those who supported life aboard ship\, including women and children. A typical performance has members in period-correct uniforms with accouterments including ditty bags\, walking sticks\, and tankards of water. \nThe event is free\, and the public is welcome to attend. This event is part of the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site’s programming around the American Revolution Experience\, a traveling exhibition which will be on display through Wednesday\, July 9\, also at the Union Hotel. \nFor more information\, please contact the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site by phone at 315-646-3634 or visit their website.

SUMMARY:July Featured Artist at the Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:The Arts Association of Northern New York (AANNY) is showcasing the work of Bill Christopherson as its July featured artist at the Sackets Harbor Arts Center at 119 West Main Street. The exhibition opens with an artist reception on Saturday\, July 5\, from 1 to 4 pm\, at the Arts Center\, featuring hors d’oeuvres\, drinks\, and a guitar performance by Gary Walts. \nA founding member of AANNY\, Christopherson began his journey into the world of pure watercolor art in the late 1980s\, taking instructional courses from renowned Thousand Islands Watercolor Artist Hans Junga. SUMMARY:Concerts on the Waterfront
DESCRIPTION:The Sackets Harbor Historical Society will continue its 2025 Concerts on the Waterfront series with Genticorum\, performing on Sunday\, July 13\, from 3 to 5 pm\, at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield\, located at 504 West Main Street. \nGenticorum is a popular traditional Québécois musical trio based in Montréal\, Canada. Known for their unbridled energy\, musicianship\, and stage presence\, the trio has been performing for more than 20 years. Pascal Gemme (on fiddle) and Yann Falquet (on guitar) are the group’s founding members\, and they’ve been joined by multi-instrumentalist and composer Nicholas Williams (on flute and accordian) since 2015. As Genticorum\, the trio weaves together intricate fiddle\, flute\, and accordion lines\, which they combine with gorgeous vocal harmonies\, subtle guitar textures\, and exhilarating foot percussion. \nThe Historical Society’s Concerts on the Waterfront series run on Sunday afternoons\, from June 29 through Aug 31\, 2025\, and this year’s theme is “Fabulous Folk”. Like all those in the series\, this concert is free and open to the public. It’s held outdoors at the Battlefield\, so remember to pack your picnic blanket or lawn chairs. \nIn case of bad weather\, the concerts will be moved to the Parish Center at St. Andrew’s Church\, which is located at the corner of East Main and Woolsey Streets. The Historical Society will announce if a concert’s being moved on its Facebook page on the afternoon of the concert. \nFor more information on the concert series\, please visit the Concerts on the Waterfront event page on our website\, the Sackets Harbor Historical Society’s website\, or its Facebook page. You can also find highlights and entire performances from last year’s Concerts on the Waterfront series on the Historical Society’s YouTube channel. \nWe hope to see you at some\, or ALL\, of the concerts this summer! \n*This concert is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program\, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts\, with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature\, and administered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.

Leading up to the Girls Shootout Tournament is the North Country Lacrosse Camp\, a three-day training camp that participants may opt to join to improve their skills with the help of their elite coaching staff. \nThe boys’ teams play the weekend prior to this\, and this year also marks the start of a Men’s Open with two divisions: 18+ and 35+. The two men’s divisions will play during the same weekend (Saturday\, July 19 and Sunday\, July 20)\, also at the Madison Barracks Parade Grounds. \nBegun in 1992 with just eight teams\, the 1812 Lacrosse Shootout Tournament has grown into the premier lacrosse event in the northeast\, with nearly 300 boys and girls teams participating. This illustrious tournament draws families\, spectators\, and friendly competition from along the northeast and into Canada. \nThis tournament is part of 1812 Sports and Entertainment’s summer athletic series in Sackets Harbor\, which includes the 1812 Lacrosse Shootouts in early- to mid-July\, the Battle at the Barracks soccer tournament in late-July\, and the 1812 Gridiron Shootout (football) in August. \nThe 1812 Shootout series is sponsored by The Boathouse and Whiskey Coop Restaurants in Sackets Harbor\, FX Caprara\, Graph-Tex\, Maverik Cascade\, and Pepsi Co. \nFor more information\, please visit the 1812 Shootout website\, or email the organizers using the link below.

SUMMARY:Revolutionary War Blacksmith at the Battlefield
DESCRIPTION:The Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site will host a Revolutionary War Blacksmith for a two-day living history experience on Friday and Saturday\, July 25 and 26\, from 10 am to 4:30 pm\, at the site’s Memorial Grove. \nTraveling Blacksmith Jymm\, who specializes in 18th century blacksmithing\, attracted crowds for his blacksmithing presentation at last year’s North American War of 1812 Grand Tactical. Back by popular demand this year\, Jymm will return to Sackets Harbor for two full days of living history demonstrations entitled “A Revolutionary War Blacksmith: Keeping the Military Prepared.” \nJymm will bring his traveling forge housed on a limber\, a type of carriage which traditionally supported a cannon in the 1800s. He’s fashioned this as blacksmiths of the Revolutionary War-era did to create a “blacksmith shop on wheels\,” carrying essential blacksmith equipment and farriers to both shoe horses and repair wagons and artillery equipment. \nThe two days of demonstrations are all free\, and the public is invited to attend. \nFor more information\, please contact the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site by phone at 315-646-3634 or visit their website.
