SUMMARY:26th Annual Quilt Show
DESCRIPTION:Spend the weekend strolling historic Sackets Harbor’s sidewalks\, and enjoy an array of more than 100 colorful quilts displayed at select historic sites across the community. Hay Memorial Library holds this event each year to celebrate the beautiful artistry of quilts and the artisans who create them. \nThe Sackets Harbor Quilt Show is a Hay Memorial Library Community Heritage Program\, and this year it will be on display for the community on Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday\, Oct 2\, 3\, and 4\, from 11 am to 4 pm each day\, at the (former) Union Hotel and the Sackets Harbor Visitor Center. \nThe theme for this year’s show is “Red\, White\, and Blue\,” and the challenge for quilters is to incorporate this theme into their original creations via classic block design\, modern quilting\, appliqué\, or embroidered embellishment. Quilters may submit their own creations that are no smaller than 24″ by 24″ and no larger than 50″ by 65\,” and the quilts should have been created between Jan 2025 and Sept 2026. The cost to enter a quilt in the show is $10\, and the show is limited to 25 entries\, which are first come first served. \nFor those interested in attending the show\, a $5 weekend passport allows you to visit the show as much as you’d like over the three days. You’ll also have the opportunity to vote for People’s Choice Awards\, which will go to the first\, second\, and third most popular quilts\, plus an honorable mention. DESCRIPTION:The Town of Hounsfield Senior Citizens will hold a Potluck Dinner and their regular monthly meeting on Monday\, Oct 5\, at 5:30 pm\, at the Sackets Harbor Municipal Building\, at 112 North Broad Street. \nThe group regularly meets on the first Monday of every month for either a soup luncheon or a potluck dinner throughout the year\, and attendees bring a dish to pass for the dinners. \nMembership in the Hounsfield Senior Citizens group is open to anyone aged 55 and over and costs just $5 per year. DESCRIPTION:The United Presbyterian Church will host its Second Friday\, Free Movie event on Friday\, Oct 9\, at 6:30 pm\, at the Church\, at 101 South Broad St\, in Sackets Harbor. \nEach month\, the Presbyterian Church staff selects a movie to show to the community and hosts a discussion\, following the screening. Some of the films are comedies\, some are dramas\, and please note that some do have content that may not be suitable for children. Due to the nature of the Church’s license\, they are unable to advertise the title of the movie. SUMMARY:Stories in Stone Cemetery Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the second annual “Stories in Stone\,” a guided tour of the Military Cemetery and Lakeside Cemetery\, in Sackets Harbor\, on Saturday\, Oct 17\, at 10 am. \nThe tour will cast a spotlight on some of the individuals and families buried in each cemetery and their significance to our local history. The Sackets Harbor Historical Society and the Sackets Harbor Heritage Area Advisory Committee are presenting this tour. \nThe Military Cemetery\nBeginning at the village’s Military Cemetery\, this year’s tour will feature brief presentations on: \n\nBrigadier General Zebulon Montgomery Pike\nMembers of the 24th Infantry\, an “all-black” regiment\nMembers of 9th Infantry\, who served in the Philippine-American War\n\nLakeside Cemetery\nNext\, the tour will cross Dodge Avenue and enter Lakeside Cemetery\, maintained by the Town of Hounsfield. The Lakeside Cemetery presentations will highlight: \n\nVillage Founder Augustus Sacket and his family\nColonel Elisha Camp\, one of the village’s first residents\, and his family\nSamuel Guthrie\, a local physician who discovered chloroform and invented the percussion cap\nJulius Terry\, an African-American soldier during the War of 1812 and long-time Sackets Harbor resident\n\nPlease note that both cemeteries have uneven terrain\, so please wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk about one mile. The tour takes between 60 and 90 minutes. \nAlso note\, the Stories in Stone cemetery tour will proceed rain or shine. In case of inclement weather\, the tour group will meet at the Old Stone Chapel on East Main Street for the presentations. If we have to relocate\, both the Historical Society and the village’s Visit Sackets Harbor accounts will post updates on Facebook. \nTickets for the cemetery tour are $5 per person\, and the tour is limited to 20 people. Tickets must be purchased in advance via our Square site. SUMMARY:Stand-Up Comedy Shows at the Ballroom
DESCRIPTION:The Sackets Harbor Ballroom will host Laughs on the Harbor\, two nights of live\, stand-up comedy shows\, on Friday and Saturday\, Oct 23 and 24\, at 7 pm\, at 103 West Main Street. \nBoth evening shows will feature two comedians: Sky Sands and Mark Chalifoux. Sky Sands is a veteran headliner and clean-comedy favorite. Mixing magic\, audience participation\, impressions\, and fast-paced improvisation\, Sky’s stand-up are more “unique experiences” than “shows.” Mark Chalifoux is a nationally touring stand-up comedian and writer. He’s been featured on Nate Bargatze’s Nateland\, his Dry Bar Comedy special has been seen millions of times on social media\, and he’s the long-time writer behind “The Dad\,” one of the most popular comedy accounts on social media. \nLaughs on the Harbor comedy shows are fundraisers for the Sackets Harbor Chamber of Commerce\, who have two large community events happening this fall: Oktoberfest (aka Sacktoberfest) on Saturday\, Sept 19\, and HalloweenVille on Saturday\, Oct 24. \nTickets for the shows are $30 per person or $120 for a front-row table seating four people. SUMMARY:The Scarecrow Scuttle 5k\, 10k & Family Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:Old McDonald’s Farm in Sackets Harbor has teamed up once again with The ARC Jefferson-St. Lawrence Foundation to host the 12th Annual Scarecrow Scuttle\, a 5k\, 10k\, and Family Fun Run/Walk\, at Old McDonald’s Farm on Saturday\, Oct 24. Check-in is from 8:45 to 9:45 am\, and the race begins at 10 am. \nSupport a great cause and spend some quality time outdoors with family and friends at this year’s Scarecrow Scuttle. The event is organized by The ARC to benefit those in Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties with developmental disabilities. \nRegistration is $50 per person for the 5k and 10k\, which includes an event t-shirt and runners medallion for all those who register by Oct 2. The registration fee increases to $60 on race day. Both races will be timed by Elitefeats. \nRegistration for the untimed Family Fun Run and Walk is $10 per adult\, $5 per child aged 4 through 12\, and free for those 3 and under. Event t-shirts are not included for Family Fun Run participants\, but they can be purchased\, along with a range of merchandise\, on the event’s website.
