SUMMARY:StoryWalk on NYS Path Through History Day
DESCRIPTION:The Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site and Hay Memorial Library will hold a StoryWalk for the NYS Path Through History Day on Saturday\, Oct 12\, from 10 am to 1 pm\, at the Battlefield. \nCommemorate the event with a lovely fall walk through Sackets Harbor\, while reading a special storybook’s pages posted along the way. This StoryWalk’s book selection is Over and Under the Pond\, an enriching story to help readers discover the plants and animals that make up the interconnected ecosystem of a mountain pond. The book was written by Kate Messner with beautiful illustrations by Christopher Silas Neal. \nIf you’re new to the StoryWalks concept\, it’s an interactive way for readers of all ages to immerse themselves in a story while also enjoying a walk out in nature. The pages of a children’s storybook are laminated and placed on stands along an outdoor path\, and each page leads you to the next one. StoryWalks are engaging for young readers while also providing a great outlet for physical energy. \nThe StoryWalk on Oct 12th is free\, and the public is welcome to attend. The starting point is near the Lieutenant’s House at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield\, located at 504 West Main Street. Parking is available near the entrance\, at the waterfront parking lot off of West Washington Street\, and in a nearby lot off Hill Street. \nThe event is organized and sponsored by Hay Memorial Library and the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site. The Library will offer “take-and-make” craft kits while supplies last at the first stop of the walk. For more than 50 years\, Jefferson County was a leader in cheese manufacturing for domestic and foreign markets. Corbett will discuss how early cheesemaking on small family farms grew to an international legend. He’ll also reveal a connection to the North Country’s War of 1812 history with the story of war veteran Col. Meacham\, who produced a mammoth cheese that he shipped from Sandy Creek to the president in Washington\, D.C. \nThis cheesemaking talk is part of series of discussions on “Place and Story\,” co-hosted by the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site and Hay Memorial Library in Sackets Harbor. DESCRIPTION:Old McDonald’s Farm in Sackets Harbor has teamed up with The ARC Jefferson-St. Lawrence Foundation to host the Scarecrow Scuttle\, a 5k\, 10k\, and Family Fun Run/Walk\, at Old McDonald’s Farm on Saturday\, Oct 26. Check-in is from 8:45 to 9:45 am\, and the race begins at 10 am. \nSupport a great cause and spend some quality time outdoors with family and friends at this year’s Scarecrow Scuttle. The event is organized by The ARC to benefit those in Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties with developmental disabilities. \nRegistration is $50 per person for the 5k and 10k\, which includes a race bib and t-shirt for all those who register by Oct 2. The registration fee increases to $55 on race day. \nRegistration for the untimed Family Fun Run is $10 per adult\, $5 per child aged 4 through 12\, and free for those 3 and under. Event t-shirts are not included for Family Fun Run participants\, but they can be purchased\, along with a range of merchandise\, on the event’s website. Then you’ll be ready to experience Sackets Harbor’s scenic landscape and discover our history. \nThe suggested 2-mile course traverses flat surfaces and offers sweeping vistas of Black River Bay\, wide open space farm fields\, sheltered woods\, and village streets. For a shorter hike\, enjoy a walk along the Battlefield Historic Site’s History Trail loop\, which includes interpretive panels with information on the history and nature participants will see on their way. \nPlease remember to dress for the winter weather conditions\, and bring leashes for pets\, so they may enjoy the hike with you. Segue\, a five-piece jazz band based in Watertown\, is a North Country favorite with Bob Harvell on saxophone and flute\, Kevin Elliott on keyboards\, Sarah Elliott also on keyboards\, Joseph Foy on bass\, and Steven Elliott on drums and percussion. \nBring a friend\, enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine\, and indulge in a little dessert while listening to live music during each of the three concerts at the historic hotel. DESCRIPTION:The United Presbyterian Church will host its Second Friday\, Free Movie event on Friday\, Feb 14\, at 6:30 pm\, at the Church\, at 101 South Broad St\, in Sackets Harbor. \nEach month\, the Presbyterian Church staff selects a movie to show to the community and hosts a discussion\, following the screening. Some of the films are comedies\, some are dramas\, and please note that some do have content that may not be suitable for children. Due to the nature of the Church’s license\, they are unable to advertise the title of the movie. SUMMARY:Inaugural Kids Ice Fishing Derby
DESCRIPTION:Sackets Harbor will host the Inaugural Kids Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday\, Feb 15\, from 9 am to 4 pm\, on the ice over Lake Ontario\, near 1812 on the Lake (the former 1812 Brewing Company). \nBring the family out for a fun winter adventure during this new ice fishing derby! Participants can access the fishing area from the dock at 1812 on the Lake (off the back deck of the restaurant)\, and they’ll have a table\, fire pit\, and ice shanty set up nearby\, so fish can be entered. They’ll also have an ice auger available for use and live bait available for purchase. \nChildren of all ages can participate in this event for $15 each\, which includes two slices of pizza and hot chocolate. Participants should bring their own equipment (i.e. tip up\, jig pole\, and etc.).  First\, second\, and third place trophies will be awarded at the end of the event\, and there’ll be a 50-50 drawing with proceeds benefiting the Sackets Harbor Fire Department. \nThe kids ice fishing derby is generously sponsored by Outskirts 1812\, 1812 on the Lake\, and Elite Marine Inc. \nFor more information or to register online\, please visit the Outskirts 1812 website.

DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately\, due to weather\, the second concert in the Winter Music Series has been canceled. \n——————– \nHay Memorial Library invites the community to come together for some great local music during its 2025 Winter Music Series at the (former) Union Hotel in Sackets Harbor. The second concert\, originally scheduled for Feb 15\, has been rescheduled to Saturday\, March 1\, from 7 to 9 pm\, with doors opening at 6:30 pm. \nThe March 1st concert will feature the Northern New York Brass Quintet\, performing jazz\, blues\, and classical music selections. The third\, and final\, free concert will be held on Saturday\, March 15. \nBring a friend\, enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine\, and indulge in a little dessert while listening to live music during each of the three concerts at the historic hotel.
