DESCRIPTION:It’s Sunflower Season at Old McDonald’s Farm in Sackets Harbor\, and they’re opening for two special sunset evenings on Friday\, Aug 25\, and Friday\, Sept 1\, from 5 pm to 8 pm. \nCelebrate the last few weeks of long summer evenings in Sackets Harbor by spending them among the sunflower fields at Old McDonald’s Farm. A visit to the farm includes seeing the more than 200 friendly animals there\, hayrides\, bounce houses for small children\, barnyard basketball games\, mini-golf\, pig races\, a Reindeer Christmas Village\, and lots of great spots of photos. \nIn addition to all that\, the Sunflower Season features a walk through the beautiful sunflowers and special photo opp spots with the sunflowers. The course is an out-and-back route with a gentle elevation gain\, which then heads back downhill towards the finish line. \nThe full marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier\, and both the full and the half marathon are certified courses. (The full marathon course is 26.2 miles\, and the half marathon is 13.1 miles.) \nRegistration is $99 for the half marathon and $109 for the full marathon\, and discounts are available\, based on how early participants register. SUMMARY:2023 Concerts on the Waterfront
DESCRIPTION:The Sackets Harbor Historical Society will conclude its 2023 Concerts on the Waterfront series with the Maria DeSantis Orchestra\, performing on Sunday\, Sept 3\, from 3 to 5 pm\, at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield\, located at 504 West Main Street. \nThis legendary band features an all-star\, 13-piece lineup featuring vocalists Keith Condon\, Gary Branch\, Michael Ranalli\, and Maria DeSantis. The group performs with its signature big band/horn band sound\, and they’ll showcase their top big band song list from its spectacular seven decade history. \nThe Maria DeSantis Orchestra concert is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program\, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts\, with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature\, and administered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council. \nThe Sackets Harbor Historical Society’s Concerts on the Waterfront series run on Sunday afternoons\, from June 25 through Sept 3\, 2023. Like all those in the series\, this concert is free and open to the public. It’s held outdoors at the Battlefield\, so remember to pack your picnic blanket or lawn chairs. \nIn case of bad weather\, the concerts will be moved to the Parish Center at St. Andrew’s Church\, which is located at the corner of East Main and Woolsey Streets. Participants will explore color by dipping\, folding\, and binding fabrics and paper into baths brewed from produce and botanicals to create wonderful patterns and color palettes. SUMMARY:Creating Characters Class at the Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:The Sackets Harbor Arts Center will host a series of Creating Characters Classes on Saturdays in September\, beginning on Sept 2 and continuing through Sept 30\, from 11 am to 12:30 pm each class\, at the AANNY building\, at 119 West Main Street. \nJoin Instructor Olivia Farrar to learn how to recreate drawing of your favorite characters from history\, literature\, and your imagination. Farrar will teach participants the fundamentals of anatomy and figure drawing\, as well as how to render people in different places and visual settings. Participants will have the opportunity to put their characters into completed\, full-scale compositions. \nEach Creating Characters Class features a different theme: \n\nSept 2: Historical figures of Sackets Harbor\nSept 9: Action characters\nSept 16: Mythological figures\nSept 23: Beloved children’s characters\nSept 30: Halloween monsters\n\nThe Creating Characters classes are open to anyone aged 10 or older. The fee is $50 for Arts Association of Northern New York (AANNY) members and $55 for non-members for the full series. Individual classes are $18 for AANNY members and $20 for non-members. \nParticipants should register with the Arts Center in advance. The Arts Center and the instructor will provide all the necessary materials\, although participants are welcome to bring their own pastels\, paints\, watercolors\, pencils\, and/or charcoal\, if they prefer. \nFor more information or to register\, please contact the Sackets Harbor Arts Center at 315-646-3502 or visit the AANNY website.
