The Holidays are fast upon us once again. I started Wreaths for Veterans five years ago and with the help of family, friends, and community, it has become a huge success. This event has grown every year and brings people together in a way that is heartwarming and inspiring. It is the remembrance of those veterans, their sacrifice, and the celebration of their service that keeps this going. Last year, we reached our goal of placing a wreath at every headstone in the Sackets Harbor Military Cemetery and allowed us to make a $1,000 donation to a local Veterans group.

Community involvement is an important part of making this celebration a reality. This year, I again ask for you to be a part of this event with a contribution of funds, volunteerism, and/or joining us in the laying of the wreaths. With your help and the generosity of Simmons Farm in Copenhagen, who makes them all at cost, we can once again have a successful year.

This year, the ceremony will be December 18th at 11:00 a.m. We have been blessed with nice weather in the past and cross our fingers we will have that again. The ceremony will last a total of an hour, but the feeling you leave with will last long after. I encourage you to join us again or for the first time. Please like and share our Facebook page – Wreaths for Veterans. There you can keep up to date on the progress of fundraising, upcoming dates, and even view previous years’ ceremonies.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact me at 315-783-5869. Please mail donations with the form by December 10th. Thank you for your contribution and helping honor both our fallen veterans and our local veterans. As one of the monuments states, “We are here because they are here.”
