The Village of Sackets Harbor and the Town of Hounsfield created the Hometown Military Heroes banner program in 2021, and it’s been a resounding success. Due to its overwhelming popularity, the program will return for a sixth year!
To honor those who have served, the Hometown Hero banners are placed on utility poles, in the spring and summer, around Sackets Harbor and Hounsfield. This program continues a community tradition of commemorating our “Hometown Heroes” for both the Village and Town.
“Our community has been incredibly supportive of the Hometown Hero banners over the last few years,” said Alex Morgia, mayor of the Village of Sackets Harbor. “We’ve added banners to more poles, in order to accommodate as many honorees as possible. If you’d like to sponsor a banner, be sure to sign up soon!”
If you’d like to honor a member of your family who has served his or her country, please complete the form below and attach a digital image of the honoree by March 1, 2026. Paper applications are also available from the Sackets Harbor Visitor Center, at 301 West Main Street, and at the Sackets Harbor Village Clerk’s Office, at 112 North Broad Street.
The fee is $175 per banner, and this helps cover the cost of designing, producing, and hanging the banners. Payments will be accepted by cash or check at the Village Clerk’s Office throughout the month of February.
Please note, the number of banners produced may be limited by the number of available utility poles. Additionally, banners will be made in the order that completed applications are received. An application is only considered complete when the applicant has returned a completed form AND a digital or printed photo to the Visitor Center, the Village Clerk’s Office, or via the online form below.
Completed banners are displayed for three years, between Memorial Day and Labor Day of each year. After three years, the banners are retired due to wear and tear.
