The Village of Sackets Harbor and the Town of Hounsfield created the Hometown Military Heroes banner program in 2021, and they expanded it with a new set of banners in 2022. Due to its overwhelming popularity, they have committed to producing a third, and final, set of banners in 2023.
Currently on display around Sackets Harbor and Hounsfield, the Hometown Hero banners are placed on utility poles in the spring and summer in honor of those who serve. For both the Village and Town, this program continues a community tradition of commemorating our “Hometown Heroes.”
“Our community has been incredibly supportive of the Hometown Hero banners over the last few years,” said Alex Morgia, mayor of the Village of Sackets Harbor. “We’re adding banners to more poles this year, in order to accommodate everyone on our waiting list. If you’d like to sponsor a banner, be sure to sign up soon!”
If you’d like to honor a member of your family who has served his or her country, please complete the form below and attach a digital image of the honoree by March 1, 2023. Paper applications are also available from the Sackets Harbor Visitor Center, at 301 West Main Street, and at the Sackets Harbor Village Clerk’s Office, at 112 North Broad Street.
The fee is $150 per banner, and this covers the cost of designing, producing, and hanging the banners. Payments will be accepted by cash or check at the Village Clerk’s Office in February 2023.
Please note, the number of banners produced may be limited by the number of available utility poles. Additionally, banners will be made in the order that completed applications are received. An application is only considered complete when the applicant has returned a completed form AND a digital or printed photo to the Visitor Center, the Village Clerk’s Office, or via the online form below.
