August Featured Artists at the Arts Center

The Arts Association of Northern New York (AANNY) is showcasing the work of two local sisters, Lynn Newman and Donna Strejlau, as the August featured artists at the Sackets Harbor Arts Center at 119 West Main Street. The exhibition opens with an artist reception on Sunday, Aug 3, from 1 to 4 pm, at the Arts Center, featuring hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and music.
A founding member of AANNY, Lynn Newman has had an interest in art since her youth. Her media of choice are pastels and watercolors, and she has dabbled with colored pencils and graphite as well. After taking a class with her mother at the local BOCES, Newman was quickly immersed in stained glass, and her sister joined her as well. Newman expanded her abilities by taking a number of online and in-person classes and workshops, and she later became a self-taught jewelry maker, specializing in polymer clay and beaded pieces.
Donna Strejlau, also a founding member of AANNY, has the distinct honor of holding the record for the highest donation at the AANNY Auction for her pastel work, Harbor Dusk. Strejlau has always had a passion for art in various forms, and she has won awards for her work in pastels, photography, and sketching. Crocheting became a new love several years ago, and she’s now known for her beautiful scarves. Strejlau will showcase some of her stained glass and pastel works during this show at the Arts Center.
Visitors can see both Lynn Newman’s and Donna Strejlau’s work on display during the Arts Center’s regular hours:
- Sunday through Wednesday, from 10 am to 4 pm
- Thursday through Saturday, from 10 am to 7 pm
