Annual First Day Hike

Start the New Year off right in Sackets Harbor at the NYS Parks annual First Day Hike on Thursday, Jan 1, from 1 to 3 pm, beginning at the Union Hotel building, at 401 West Main Street.

Sign-in for the hike at the magnificent Union Hotel building in Sackets Harbor, where you’ll also receive a free hike souvenir and a map of the First Day Hike loop along the Village trails. Then you’ll be ready to experience Sackets Harbor’s scenic landscape and discover our history.

The suggested 2-mile course traverses flat surfaces and offers sweeping vistas of Black River Bay, wide open space farm fields, sheltered woods, and village streets. For a shorter hike, enjoy a walk along the Battlefield Historic Site’s History Trail loop, which includes interpretive panels with information on the history and nature participants will see on their way.

Please remember to dress for the winter weather conditions, and bring leashes for pets, so they may enjoy the hike with you. In case of icy conditions, the hike will be canceled.
