Fort Drum Helocast

The Sackets Harbor community is invited to watch as the 41st Engineer and 3-10 Aviation Battalions at Fort Drum conduct a Helocast over Lake Ontario, just off shore from the Sackets Harbor Battlefield, on Friday, Sept 19, at 10 am.

A helocast is a military technique for rapidly inserting troops into a designated area by having them jump from a low-flying helicopter into water. In this case, the helocast is a training exercise, and the soldiers will jump from the helicopter and swim to the shore, testing their skill and bravery.

This is a free event, and the public is welcome to observe. Grab a chair or blanket and head to the Battlefield’s Hill Street parking lot (near the large red barn).
