Hay Memorial Library is proud to present this year’s Great Lakes Poetry Series, comprising three workshops and beginning on Saturday, April 13, from 1 to 5 pm, at the Library, located at 105 South Broad Street, in Sackets Harbor.
April is National Poetry Month, and what better way to celebrate than with a poetry workshop! Poet and Author Fred Schmitt will lead this first workshop, called “Read Between the Lines.” Participants are encouraged to bring along a favorite poem (one of your own or one that inspires you) to read and discuss with the group. The Library will provide journals, writing prompts, peer comments, and an opportunity to read/perform the poems.
Beginning during National Poetry Month, the three-part Great Lakes Poetry Series is designed to promote and encourage creative writing and artistic expression. The second workshop of the series is “We Make Art, Art Makes Us,” which will be held on Saturday, May 11, at the (former) Union Hotel, in Sackets Harbor. And the third workshop in the series is “Introspection + Reflection: Building Stories,” which will be held on Saturday, June 15, also at the (former) Union Hotel, in Sackets Harbor.
All of the events in the Great Lakes Poetry Series are open to the public, ages 16 and up, with a registration fee of $8 that covers all workshop materials and registration. If you’d like to participate in all three events, the registration is fee $20.
Hay Memorial Library’s poetry programming is supported in part by Shaw Harbor Foundation, a charitable fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation.
