Hay Memorial Library is proud to present the second workshop of its Great Lakes Poetry Series on Saturday, May 11, from 1 to 5 pm, at the (former) Union Hotel, located at 401 West Main Street, in Sackets Harbor.
This second workshop in the series is called “We Make Art, Art Makes Us,” and participants will be split into two groups. One group will be lead by Sackets Harbor Painter Beth White, and participants in this group will create paintings. The other group will be lead by award-winning North Country Poet and Educator Laurie Petersen, and participants in this group will write poetry. Both groups will use landscape, lakeshore, and garden photos, along with written prompts, to inspire their creative work about the natural world around us.
The three-part Great Lakes Poetry Series is designed to promote and encourage creative writing and artistic expression. The series began in April with a workshop titled “Read Between the Lines,” at Hay Memorial Library, and it will continue with one final workshop “Introspection + Reflection: Building Stories,” which will be held on Saturday, June 15, at the (former) Union Hotel, in Sackets Harbor.
All of the events in the Great Lakes Poetry Series are open to the public, ages 16 and up, with a registration cost of $8 that covers all workshop materials and registration. If you’d like to participate in all three events, the registration is $20.
Hay Memorial Library’s poetry programming is supported in part by Shaw Harbor Foundation, a charitable fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation.
