July Featured Artist at the Arts Center

The Arts Association of Northern New York (AANNY) is showcasing the work of Peter Basta as the July Featured Artist at the Sackets Harbor Arts Center at 119 West Main Street.

An Ogdensburg native, Basta began painting at a young age under the mentorship of John Morrow, an accomplished landscape and seaway artist. After graduating from St. Lawrence University, he settled in Cape Cod, where he launched his teaching career while continuing to refine his painting.

Basta later returned to the North Country to continue teaching, and he spent several years working in illustration and commercial art before transitioning to oils. His work is inspired by his experiences along the St. Lawrence Seaway, as well as summers spent at his cottage near Black Pond, in Henderson Harbor.

The Arts Center will display a number of Basta’s paintings, including many of the local area, throughout the month of July.

Visitors can see Peter Basta’s work on display during the Arts Center’s regular hours:

• Sunday through Wednesday, from 10 am to 4 pm
• Thursday through Saturday, from 10 am to 7 pm
