Join the Hay Memorial Library for “Meaning, Sound, and Rhythm,” the first event in the Great Lakes Poetry series for 2022, on Saturday, April 23, from 1 to 5 pm, at the Sackets Harbor Ballroom. The event is open to the public, but registration is limited to 25 participants. The $5 registration fee covers all workshop materials.

“Meaning, Sound, and Rhythm” will include a writers workshop and a reading and discussion with Poet Philip Memmer, along with a Poetry Slam, refreshments, and book signing. Memmer is an award-winning poet, editor, and teacher, as well as the director of the Arts Program at the Syracuse YMCA. A member of the National Poetry Foundation, Memmer is the author of five poetry books, most recently Pantheon, which was published in 2019.

April is National Poetry Month, and this one-day arts program by is designed to encourage and promote creative writing and artistic expression. “Meaning, Sound, and Rhythm” is hosted by Hay Memorial Library, with grant support from the Northern New York Community Foundation and the Shaw Harbor Foundation, and by the McAndrews Family Foundation.

The Great Lakes Poetry series is a regional poetry program, highlighting historic, geographic, maritime, and natural themes of the Great Lakes. Please stay tuned for more events in this series later in the year.
