Rescheduled: StoryWalk on National Trails Day

The Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site and Hay Memorial Library will hold a StoryWalk in honor of National Trails Day on Saturday, June 13, from 10 am to 1 pm, beginning at the Battlefield.
Postponed due to inclement weather, this year’s StoryWalk for National Trails Day features Sacred Song of the Hermit Thrush: A Native American Legend, which tells the story of how the hermit thrush was given a lovely song to sing. The book was written by Tehanetorens, a master storyteller in the Mohawk tradition.
If you’re new to the StoryWalks concept, it’s an interactive way for readers of all ages to enjoy a story while also enjoying a walk out in nature. The pages of a children’s storybook are laminated and placed on stands along an outdoor path, and each page leads you to the next one. StoryWalks are engaging for young readers while also providing a great outlet for some physical energy.
The StoryWalk on June 13th is free, and the public is welcome to attend. The starting point is the Lieutenant’s House at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield, located at 504 West Main Street. Parking is available near the entrance and in a nearby lot off Hill Street.
