NYS War of 1812 Day and Fish & Wildlife Day

Join us at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site on Saturday, Sept 28, from 10 am to 4:30 pm, for a day of fun and learning, as part of New York State’s War of 1812 Day AND the state’s official Fish & Wildlife Day.
View the Battlefield’s changing leaves, fallen acorns, spooky spiderwebs, and more! There are so many signs of fall popping up already, and the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site is a perfect spot to observe them all.
As part of both the NYS War of 1812 Day and the Fish & Wildlife Day, the Historic Site staff have created two Scavenger Hunts for kids of all ages to participate in:
- The Searching for Fall Scavenger Hunt will explore the Memorial Tree Grove, from 1 pm to 3 pm
- The Our History Trail Scavenger Hunt will follow the nationally-designated History Trail, from 1 pm to 3 pm
Along the way, visitors will see how site staff work to restore native growth habitats on the historic battlegrounds by fighting invasive species to promote sustainable interaction with nature. The site is also recognized as an official NYS Birding Trail.
This event is sponsored by the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site, in partnership with NYS Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation; Parks & Trails New York; the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation; and as part of the “Love Our New York Lands Stewardship Days.”
