The Village of Sackets Harbor is currently preparing applications for two state grant programs to fund projects in Madison Barracks, and we’d like our residents and business owners to have a say in what projects are included.
The Village is applying for funding through two New York State grant programs — the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), which awards one $10 million grant to the North Country per year, and the New York Forward program, which awards two $4.5 million grants to the North Country per year.
In both programs, the purpose of the grants is to fund projects that will transform local business districts. Businesses, non-profit organizations, and municipalities are all eligible to submit projects as part of the Village’s application. The funding works as follows:
- Up to 75% of project costs are reimbursable for businesses (this is higher than in previous years),
- Up to 100% of project costs are reimbursable for non-profits, and
- Up to 100% of project costs are reimbursable for municipalities.
It’s essential to have strong project proposals in each category to make the Sackets Harbor application competitive, as our applications will be judged on their overall merits and balance.
The community now has two opportunities to make their voices heard — the Village is currently conducting a brief online survey that you can access via Survey Monkey. (Please click here to open the survey.) No personal information is collected through this survey, and participants don’t have to create an account or join Survey Monkey to participate.
The second opportunity for community involvement is by attending our next Community Forum, on Tuesday, Oct 28, at 6:30 pm, at the Visitor Center. We’ll also broadcast the meeting online via Zoom. For those who’d like to attend virtually, please use this link to join the meeting:
