Cardboard Boat Races in the Harbor

The Watertown Lions Club and the Sackets Harbor Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to host Cardboard Boat Races in the Harbor, a fundraiser for the Lions Club and a fun, team event for aspiring boat builders in the area, on Sunday, May 29, at 11 am, at the Sackets Harbor Boat Launch on West Main Street.

Are you up for a challenge? Then gather an adventurous crew, choose your captain, and start drawing up your best cardboard boat plans. Teams of all ages are welcome, and costumed-crew and themed-boats are highly encouraged.

Registration is $25, and that covers your team for the race. Teams that register before May 8 receive a free Cardboard Boat Race t-shirt for your captain (or mascot).

The event begins at 11 am with a Rain Gutter Boat Race for kids 10 and under. The Cardboard Boat Race starts at 1 pm, when boats race each other in heats through a course laid out in the Harbor. The Watertown Lions Club will award prizes for:

• The Clipper (the fastest boat)
• The Bomb Vessel (most creative boat)
• The Battlecruiser (best corporate/company boat)
• The Hand Over Fist (most scholarship funds raised)
• The Titanic (the best sinking ship)
