Madison Barracks to Fort Drum Talk

The Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site will host a presentation on the US Army’s presence in the North Country, from Madison Barracks to Fort Drum, on Saturday, Aug 5, from 1 to 2 pm, at the Battlefield’s big red barn off Hill Street.
For anyone interested in local military history, the Battlefield will present a special opportunity to hear from staff from the 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Museum. The US Army constructed Madison Barracks following the War of 1812 and used it for training purposes until WWII. Museum staff will offer displays and hand-outs to illustrate the story of the US Army presence here, from Madison Barracks to Pine Camp to Camp Drum to modern-day Fort Drum.
The talk will focus on the increased need for land for the Army’s training, beginning with the War of 1812 at Sackets Harbor through today’s base at Fort Drum. Stop by and discover our area’s immense military heritage.
